What this tool tests

This page runs a stereo pan check (left / right ear): tones play panned to the left or right channel; you pick which side you heard. Five rounds. Your score reflects how reliably your headphones and ears separate the two channels — a quick sanity check, not a clinical baseline.

For frequency matching (pure tones on a slider, ranks, daily challenge), use the main Frequency Game — targets there sit roughly 250 Hz–1.4 kHz depending on rank, with a ~250 Hz floor so laptop and phone speakers stay usable.

Why headphones matter here

The left/right check only works with proper stereo separation. In a room with speakers, both ears hear both channels — the test becomes meaningless. Use wired or Bluetooth headphones, worn correctly (L ear on L cup, R ear on R cup).

Volume: comfortable and consistent. Loud volume does not improve accuracy; it increases fatigue and can skew high-frequency perception.

What the results mean

A high stereo score means your headphones are working and you can reliably identify channel direction. A low score usually reflects setup — wrong headphone orientation, mono output, or background noise — more often than actual hearing asymmetry.

If you notice a consistent real-world difference between your ears (one side always sounds quieter or muffled), see an audiologist rather than relying on a browser game.

Online Hearing Test

Take a quick online check: tones are panned left or right — pick which side you heard. Five rounds; use headphones for stereo. No signup required. Not a medical test.

For frequency matching on a slider (three tones, ranks), use the main game or the Frequency Game.

  • Use headphones and a comfortable volume.
  • 5 rounds; score stays in this browser only.

FAQ

Is this online hearing test a medical test?
No. This page is for casual exploration only. It does not diagnose hearing loss or medical conditions. See an audiologist for professional testing.
Why do I need headphones for the left/right check?
Stereo panning only works when each ear hears a separate channel. Speakers in a room blend both channels, so the test becomes unreliable without headphones.
What does my score mean?
The stereo quiz counts how many times you correctly picked left vs right pan for a fixed tone. It reflects focus and headphone setup as much as hearing.
Can I use phone speakers?
You can read the page, but the left/right rounds need proper stereo separation. Use wired or Bluetooth headphones that support stereo.
What if I get every answer wrong?
Check that headphones are worn correctly (L/R), volume is audible but comfortable, and try again in a quiet room. Persistent difficulty with real-world hearing should be discussed with a clinician.
